226ERS Hydrazero Superlight Water Bottle

In this article I will share my experience with the 226ERS Hydrazero Superlight Water Bottle. 226ERS is a Spanish Sports Nutrition brand and official partner of the Movistar World Tour Cycling team. I see this super light water bottle as a direct competitor for the Elite Fly water bottle.

Key features 226ers Hydrazero Superlight Water Bottle

On the product page of 226ERS Hydrazero Superlight Water Bottle you can read the following description:

Ultra-lightweight bottle designed with high quality materials and a large opening spout handle. Easy to clean and certified for optimum food quality, odourless and tasteless.

It is also manufactured in accordance with the international standard for bicycle bottle cages, with the special thickness for a comfortable feel when drinking and tested by the big professional teams.

White and 3 horizontal lines with HYDRAZERO colors and available in a 550 and 750 ml size. The 226ERS water bottle with product number 8436567350159 is made of Polypropylene and BPA free.

The overall look and feel of the 226ERS Hydrazero Superlight water bottle reminds me of the Elite Fly water bottle, and the superlight in the naming sparked my interest to find out if it would be lighter than the Assos water bottle, which is the lightest I’ve tested on this website with 45 grams.

Cap design with big flow nozzle

The most remarkable design feature that you will directly notice is the wide diameter nozzle, with a shape that allows you to easily open (with your teeth). When you open the nozzle, it works in a two step rocket process. You will see that on the inside of the cap, where you will see the moving parts of the nozzle. This is different from the Elite Fly water bottle that has no moving parts on the inside of the cap.

On the outside of the cap you see a nice 45 degree angle of the cap side, that gives it an “aero edge”. There are also 5 ridges molded into the cap design, that will provide additional grip when opening or closing the cap when cleaning or preparing your nutrition.

Easy to squeeze Bottle design

The 226ERS Hydrazero Superlight Bottle design is easy to squeeze, most likely because of an optimize wall thickness design. It feels comparable to the Elite Fly bottle squeeze-ability, and the Elite Cycling designers called it variable wall thickness.

You also see the 226ERS brand in big black capital letters on the outside (2 times) as well as the familiar 3 horizontal lines in pink, yellow and light blue, which are the hydrazero colors.

Another important design aspect of the bottle is a transparent vertical section in the bottle, so you can actually see how much sports nutrition you still have left in the water bottle. So nice to have, when you don’t have a full transparent bottle design.

Finally the 226ERS Hydrazero Superlight Water Bottle fits the Elite Rocko Carbon, the Elite Leggero Carbon, the Schmolke TLO and the Tune Wasserträger 2.0 carbon bottle cages.

Water Bottle Weight Comparison

The Assos Water Bottle with Cyclist design is the benchmark when it comes to superlight water bottles. It is the lightest I’ve tried and tested with just 45 grams of total empty weight. The Elite Fly water bottle was always on a strong second place with 54 grams, making it overall a super good choice (and thus being used by many world tour cycling teams)

So when I pulled out the good old kitchen scales I was excited to learn what the weight would be of the 226ERS Hydrazero Superlight water bottle. The cap was at a very similar weight (22 grams) so measuring the bottle made me more excited. With a total weight of 63 grams, the 226ERS Hydrazero Superlight water bottle is in the top 3 when it comes to lightweight bottles, just leaving the Elite Fly and Assos water bottle on a higher podium spot. However the 226ERS water bottle is a very versatile water bottle that I prefer, and which is very close to the usability of the Elite Fly water bottle, just cheaper !

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up

The price point of the 226ERS Hydrazero Superlight Water Bottle is 4,50 which is cheap and hard to beat value for money ratio. The 226ERS water bottle fits all the bottle cages I own very well and from my point of view it is a good alternative for the Elite Fly water bottles (when you are not a weightweenie and can deal with the additional 9 gr per water bottle).

  • Have you every heard about the 226ERS Sports Nutrition Brand ?
  • Are you ok with the price point of a 226ERS Hydrazero Superlight Water Bottle?

It is also interesting to see that 226ERS has some nutrition packs for sportive events like Mallorca 312, The Traka, Sea Otter Classic, Flander or an Ironman triathlon.
