In this article I will share my thoughts about the Elite Leggero Carbon Bottle Cage, and compare it with the slightly heavier Elite Rocko Carbon water bottle cage.. The Elite Leggero is the bottle cage on the the aero Colnago Y1Rs of Tadej Pogačar, but I’ve also seen it athletes race on the Traka 360 2026 gravel event. So I wanted to give it a try and test.

During the recent Traka 2026 I noticed that a couple of riders were using the Elite Leggero Carbon Bottle Cages on their gravel bikes, while in the mean time a friend of mine purchased a new Italian road bike and put on the Leggero cages. So I went after a pair and installed these on my Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 1-by to directly test if these could hold the 750 ml or 950 ml Elite Fly Team Water Bottle in place.
You directly notice the small and elegant profile in a side-by-side comparison with the Elite Rocko Carbon bottle cage but also compared to the Schmolke TLO – Lightweight Carbon Bottle Cage. The good old kitchen scales show 12 grams for the Elite Leggero and 27 grams for the Elite Rocko bottle cage. Given the used material, this makes absolutely sense. The Schmolke TLO Lightweight Bottle Cage measures 10 grams on the same kitchen scales, but the Schmolke ones are at a different price point.
I needed to get used to the slim profile first, but actually I’m surprised to see how well this optimized minimalistic profile holds the bottles firmly in place. The has no problems with holding the Camelbak Podium Water Bottles or the Tacx Daiya O2 water bottles where the latter has a bit more resistance putting the water bottle in.
Installation is normal and the Prototipo Works Ultra Low Bidon Cage Bolt keeps the Elite Leggero Carbon cages in place and contribute to an amazing clean look.
Concluding thoughts and wrap-up
The price point of the Elite Leggero Carbon Bottle Cage is around € 24,00 – € 30,00 which would bring you to € 50,00 – € 60,00 for setting up a bike with lightweight bottle cages, than can team up with the lightest water bottles. And the difference with the weight weenie options like the CarbonWorks Bottle Cage with 9 grams is fairly limited compared to 12 grams for the Elite Leggero.
I’m suprised to see how well larger Elite Fly Team bottles (750 ml and 950 ml) are kept in place, even in offroad conditions, with such a slim silhouette. The Elite Leggero Carbon bottle cage is the preferred bottle cage of Tadej Pogaccar and the UAE XRG cycling team in the UCI World Tour. But Luke Michael James has raced the Traka 360 (in 2026) with Elite Leggero Carbon Bottle Cages.
