Amacx Energy Ice Gel

In this article I will share my experience with the Amacx Energy Ice Gel in flavor lemon lime. It basically is an energy gel with 30 grams of carbohydrates that you need to put in the freezer. It can be used as an ice cream and will help to cool you down in warm days.

The motive to test this energy ice gel, was an e-mail from The Feed who did do some testing by putting 25 energy gels in the freezer (with mixed results). I will put some of my personal favorite energy gels also in the freezer to see what happens.

Key features Amacx Energy Ice Gel

On the product page of Energy Ice Gel on the Amacx website you can read the following product description:

The Amacx Energy Ice Gel is a gel that you freeze and consume as a frozen energy source, which resembles an ice cream cone. This gel helps lower the core temperature of the body while providing 30 grams of carbohydrates. Each gel contains 200mg of sodium to aid in hydration. The Energy Ice Gel is available in Lemon Lime and Cola flavor.

  • Provides cooling
  • 30 grams of carbohydrates
  • 200mg of sodium
  • 2:1 carbohydrate ratio

In the first week of LE Tour de France 2026 you see the complete world tour peloton in absolute best shape struggling with the heat. Cooling vests, ice packs in their necks and even put in the legs of their cycling bibs to cool down a bit. Luckily I’m not a world tour professional, but during long rides on warm days I don’t mind to stop at a gas-station and get me a water-ice-cream called “Rocket” from the brand Ola (the rocket ice exists since 1962). It cools you down internally, but doesn’t consists of any carbo hydrates.

The key features from my point of view are the 30 grams of carbo hydrates and added 200 mg of sodium all included in an ice cream. As a hobby cyclist I could take it before a hard training, but going into a long ride the frozen Amacx Energy Ice Gel will simply melt in the back-pocket of a cycling jersey. The professional World Tour cyclists have a support staff and massive cooling boxes in the cars to keep water bottles cool (and potentially also these ice gels). So usability for a hobby cyclist without support staff is limited.

Nutritional values Amacx Energy Ice Gel

Before we go into the specific break down in nutritional values of the Amacx Energy Ice Gel, let’s have a look at the total amount of energy per 100 ml and compare against the other energy gels that I’ve reviewed so far:

  1. PowerBar PowerGel Hydro in Mojito flavor with caffeine has a total energy of 684 kJ of energy per 100 ml
  2. SiS Beta Fuel Dual Source Energy Gel has a total energy of 673 kJ of energy per 100 ml
  3. Amacx Energy Ice Gel has a total energy of 662 kJ of energy per 100 ml.
  4. Born Sportscare Super Liquid Gel consists of 654 kJ of energy per 100 ml.

Compare this with the 318 kJ of energy per 100 ml (or 76 kcal) for the Ola Raket water-ice-cream. So we are talking about double the energy and sodium included.

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up

The price point of a 12 pack of Amacx Energy Ice Gel is € 59,95 which translates to € 4,99 per gel. This is not cheap and almost double the price of a normal energy gel. The Amacx Turbo Ice Gel even retails for € 79,95 for a 12 pack and consists of 40 grams of carbohydrates.

The freezing of the Amacx Energy Ice Gel works very well, compared to the tests done with other energy gels by The Feed that just change viscosity but stay fluid.

There is certainly a use-case for the Amacx Energy Ice Gel. For pre-race cooling and a bit of energy this works well. For usage during a long ride, you would probably need support staff in case you would like to consume it as a water-ice-cream, just like to processional cyclists have. In any other case you could opt to just drink it as an energy gel, but for that there are many more cheaper options available.

  • What products do you use to cool down on hot rides ?
  • Any energy gels that you put in the freezer (and consume as an ice-cream)?
  • Do you use any other Amacx products ? If yes, please tell me which product and why.
