Arundel Pico Seat Bag review

In this article I will review the Arundel Pico Seat Bag for my Canyon Ultimate CF SLX road race bike, which replaces the Scicon Elan 210 Carbon saddle bag after many many years of service. I will share my thoughts and first experiences on design and what fits the Arundel Pico.

Key features Arundel Pico Saddle Bag

On the Arundel Pico Seat Bag product page this description is relevant:

Pico, Medio and Gordo are our water resistant, extra durable range of Arundel seat bags. We make use of sonic welded seams and nylon fabric impregnated with thermoplastic polyurethane. Think frogman raft. The straps are also nylon and wider than usual, like seat belts in planes and cars. A wider strap means more Velcro area for better security. The materials we chose cost more but in exchange, you have a seat bag that should last a good long time. All three are slightly roomier than our time proven corresponding sized Uno, Dual and Tubi.

The material used for this saddle bag comes close to Craft Cadence Backpack Rolltop or Ortlieb Velocity messenger bag. So robust, long lasting and waterproof material that will resist the abuse of a cyclist (on and off the road) in various weather conditions. Just like with the messenger bags, and it is also pre-shaped.

Another directly recognizable feature is the wider nylon strap, and metal loops through which you fasten the straps. On the Scott Scale 925 I use a Fox Transfer Dropper Post and would like to use a saddle bag that only fastens on the saddle rails (and not with an additional strap around the sliding part of the dropper post).

Scicon Elan 210 Carbon saddle bag or Arundel Pico ?

The Scicon Elan 210 Carbon saddle bag has a more rectangular box shaped formfactor (more limited height than the Arundel Pico Seat Bag). The materials used are a mix of nylon (on the sides where the zipper is placed) and a carbon reinforced plastic like material which is durable and strong and even thicker than the messenger bag materials.

If the dimensions of both saddle bags fit with your requirements is something you need to find out yourself. But the Arundel Pico seat bag has a metal clip to fasten the wider nylon strap, which is even more outspoken on the Arundel Medio seat bag. The latter will I use on the Scott Scale 925 mountain bike or a Canyon Grizl gravel bike in the near future.

Both Arundel and Scicon are established brands in the cycling industry, but the wide nylon strap and the way how the zipper is build into the bag, combined with the messenger-bag-like material tips the odds to the Arundel Pico Seat Bag.

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up

I’ve purchased the Arundel pico saddle bag at Koers.cc for the price point of € 29,95 with some solid pre-sales advice included (thank you Serge P.). Products were also shipped very fast.

On the Scott Scale 925 I use a Fox Transfer Dropper Post and would like to use a saddle bag that only fastens on the saddle rails (and not with an additional strap around the sliding part of the dropper post). The Arundel Pico and Medio Seat Bags do exactly that with they outstanding wide nylon strap and metal buckle. It allows me to easily store two RideNow TPU inner tubes, Schwalbe Tire Levers, a CO2 inflator and some small parts.

Seat bags have always been a key product in the Arundel Bicycle Company product portfolio. So you cannot go wrong with this quality purchase.

  • What saddle bag do you use on road bike, mountain bike and gravel bike ?
  • What is the price point that you are willing to pay ?
  • What are the requirements you are looking after ?
