In this article I will review Muc-Off Punk Powder Bike Cleaner which I’ve purchased as part of the Muc-Off Bottle for Life Bundle that also includes a recyclable tough aluminium spray bottle in the pink Muc-Off color scheme. In simple words the Punk Powder is Nano Tech Bike Cleaner in a solid shape (which takes less volume and is easier plus more sustainable to ship). You simply need to add water, that’s all.

It’s not just the powder that’s green and mean (on grime), but the packaging too. It’s 100% plastic-free, and each sachet is compostable (certified to EN 13432 standard) and made from renewable raw materials. We’ve even used vegetable-based inks! Each sachet contains 30 grams of Muc-Off Punk Powder that makes 1 liter of Nano Tech Bike Cleaner. “It is made with 92% less packaging than using 1L Nano Tech plastic bottles, with the same epic cleaning results!” As you can read in the description above, Muc-Off has gone the extra mile and even used vegetable-based inks on top of the sustainable “cardboard” packaging.
The packaging is also a helpful tool to guide the Punk Powder through the neck of the normal Muc-Off spray bottle or the aluminum Bottle for Life spray bottle. These have a similar diameter of the bottle neck opening. I personally use the Birchmeier Super Star 1.25l with 360° Tech, that is pressure spray bottle which is applying pressure first, and than easily spraying the complete bike in one go with a single push of the lever. The 360 Tech feature even let’s you keep the pressure spray bottle upside down.
In the past I purchased a 5 liter container with Muc-Off Nano Tech Bike Cleaner that you would throw away after it was empty. The plastic- and CO2 footprint with the Punk Powder Bike Cleaner is much much smaller, even just for refilling.
Bike cleaning steps
Below you can read the bike cleaning steps I do on a regular (weekly) basis. When cleaning and performing the regular maintenance it is always a good moment to check your bikes for optimal performance.
- I take a garden hose, and spray off the excessive dirt and mud first withthe GEKA Spray Nozzle Light. So the frameset has water on it, and some dirt has been removed already
- I spray the frameset with Pedros Green Fizz Active Bike Wash (or Muc-Off Nano Tech Bike Cleaner) and let the active component do the heavy lifting.
- I deep clean the chain and cassette with help of the Muc-Off X3 Dirty Chain Machine or the Weldtite Chain Cleaning Machine (and if needed the Dynamic Drivetrain Detailing Brush or Finish Line Grunge Brush)
- After sufficient time to let the active component in Pedros Green Fizz Active Bike Wash do the work, I prepare a bucket with Morgan Blue Bike Wash and clean the bike from top to down with Eurocol Joint Sponge or Cyclon Cleaning Glove.
- When finished I spray of the bike again with a garden hose and dry the bike with a towel (and or use an air compressor in my garage)
