Hazet 863P 1/4″ Reversible ratchet

The Hazet 863P 1/4″ reversible ratchet is in my toolbox for a long time. I have a set of Hazet reversible ratchets with 1/2″, 3/8″ and 1/4″ sockets. Reliable, well engineered and very useful to have in the tool cabinet of a home mechanic. I will briefly compare with the Wera Zyklop 8000 series ratchet.

Key features Hazet 363P 1/4″ Reversible Ratchet

On the product page of the Hazet 863P 1/4″ reversible ratchet with EAN 4000896038558 you can read the following technical details:

The Hazet 863P 1/4″ reversible ratchet is a rock solid all-round reversible ratchet with a 20 tooth mechanism inside that results in 18 ° opening angle. This is suitable for most quality allround ratchets from brands like Hazet, Stahlwille, Gedore and others. And for most use cases you will be fine. I’ve also reviewed the Wera Zyklop 8000A Speed Ratchet that features a 72 tooh mechanism inside that results in 5° opening angle.

The 1/4″ square drive gives you the option to attach a lot of regular 1/4″ socket tools (or an adapter) in combination with the Hazet 863P ratchet. The Hazet 2-component handle in familiar Hazet colors is something you also see on the Hazet 916SP Ratchet with a 1/2″ drive. The handle provides a firm grip, and is more relevant for the bigger versions than 1/4″.

Personally I use the Hazet 863P 1/4″ reversible ratchet most in combination with a Torx T27 socket. The main use case is to tighten and loosen the chain ring bolts (Torx T27) on the Shimano Hollowtech II cranksets. Please have a look at the article Rotor Aero noQ Chainring for Shimano Dura Ace 9000 and the article TA Specialties X-110 33T Chainring.

For me a key feature not included on the technical details page is the availability of spare parts. The complete internal ratchet system with article number 863P/7N and EAN 4000896038596 can be purchased as spare part. So this ratchet will last a life time.

Concluding Thoughts and Wrap-up

The price point of a Hazet 863P 1/4″ reversible ratchet is around € 55,00 and the spart part ratchet system 863P/7N retails for about € 25,00. On the Hazet website the price point of the Hazet 863P is € 92,00. The Wera Zyklop 8000A speed ratchet had a price point of € 51,00 when I published the review back in 2021. Pretty comparable in price, slightly a bit more innovation with the Wera Zyklop 8000A.

I have the full collection of Hazet ratchets in the Bera Clic+ cycling toolbox:

  • Hazet 916SP for 1/2″ sockets
  • Hazet for 3/8″ sockets
  • Hazet 863P for 1/4″ sockets

In the IceToolz Cassette Lockring Tool with 12mm Guide Pin, #09C2 you see the Hazet 916SP at work, while the Hazet for 3/8″ sockets is mainly connected to the Wheelsmfg CL-Socket or Park Tool BBT-19.2 bottom bracket tool.

  • What ratchet brand (and model type) are you using ?
  • What were your decision criteria for buying ?
