In this article I will share my thoughts about the 6D Hydro ORS Drink in flavor grapefruit. It is a low calories electrolytes drink that keeps you hydrated and performing by replenishing salt and fluids. This product is in the same category as Nuun Sport Hydration Tabs, Maxim Total Hydration Tabs & Born Sportscare Watts & Minerals.

Key advantages of Hydro ORS from 6D Sports Nutrition
On the product page of 6D Sports Nutrition Hydro ORS you can read the following description with key advantages:
The 2-in-1 hypotonic sports drink that you can dose as a low-calorie sports drink (HYDRO) or as O.R.S. The best sports drink for quick hydration, even in very hot and humid weather.
- Low in calories, ideal for athletes who want to limit their energy intake.
- Contains the most important electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium) for a rapid replenishment of fluid and salt reserves.
- pH neutral, so soft in taste so that there is no stomach upset.
- 3 soft flavors with a natural flavoring and coloring.
Let me first start with a definition of the term hypotonic (compared to hypertonic and isotonic):
A hypotonic sports drink is a beverage with a lower concentration of solutes (salts and sugars) than human blood. This allows it to be absorbed into the bloodstream faster than water, making it highly effective for rapid rehydration.
Super interesting to read and learn about the different terms. But the main point is low calories and high levels op important electrolytes to keep your muscles and body functioning properly during endurance exercise.
I really like the grapefruit flavor which is not sweat with a tiny bit of bitterness, but foremost neutral and not to intense. That results for me in having a hydro drink that is easy on the stomach and digestion. It reminded me a bit off the NatuSport Isotonic Sports drink Red Fruit which also “has been developed for easy absorption (of carbohydrates and a higher dose of electrolytes)“.
6D Sports Nutrition Hydro as Oral Rehydration Solution – ORS Drink
There are two ways of using the 6D Sports Nutrition Hydro ORS Drink:
- Single dose = Sports Drink
- Double dose = ORS Drink (Oral Rehydration Solution)
This reminds me a bit of the Amacx Isotonic Sports drink or Rehydration drink that can be mixed as hydration or sports drink. 6D Sports Nutrition has an extensive description on the Hydro product page, that you should know (and it is interesting to read and understand the mechanics of the
- At a single dose, 6D Hydro contains only 3.7g of carbohydrates, and 450mg of sodium per 500ml water bottle. That is why this 6D Hydro solution is the ideal sports drink in preparation for, or during (endurance) training where athletes deliberately want to keep the intake of carbohydrates low (e.g. fasting training).
- With a double dose (2 sachets in 500ml), a typical “Oral Rehydration Solution (=ORS)” is created. The 6D Hydro in this concentration contains 7.5g of glucose in the form of maltodextrin, and 900 mg of sodium per 500ml bottle. The combination of sodium and glucose in a hypotonic solution (±210 mmol/kg) maximizes fluid absorption at the level of the small intestine. The 6D Hydro ORS is therefore the ideal solution for athletes who sweat a lot and also lose a lot of salt. Even during a prolonged stay in a warm and humid environment (= tropical climate) and […] is the most ideal drink to “pre-hydrate” the body in preparation for exercise and to “re-hydrate” it after exercise.
In addition 6D Sports Nutrition advices their own Isotonic Sports Drink that “contains 30g of carbohydrates and 450mg of sodium per 500ml of bottle.” Check out the sports drinks that I’ve reviewed on this website:
- Amacx Isotonic Sports drink or Rehydration drink
- NatuSport Isotonic Sports drink Red Fruit
- Amacx Turbo Drink Watermelon
NatuSport also has also a nice ratio of carbohydrates and electrolytes. If you are interested in water bottles, than check these out over here.

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up
The price point of 6D Sports Nutrition Hydro ORS is € 22,50 for 28 doses of 6 grams in a box. In other words this is € 0,80 for a single dose. A container of 10 Nuun Sport Hydration Tabs is € 8,00 (also € 0,80 for a single tab). I’ve purchased 6D Sports Nutrition at Jef Abels Bikes in Gulpen.
