In this article I will review the Unior Tools Hub Genie with product# 627272 for 15 and 12 mm thru axle hubs. I’ve used the Hub Genie to remove the endcaps safely of DT Swiss 350 Hubs, that drive the DT Swiss XM 1700 Spline wheels on my Scott Scale.
Hub Genie from Unior Tools simply doesn’t damage the surface of the endcaps, compared to the use of a pipe wrench (for example Knipex Cobra) with a piece of cloth.

As far as I know this is the only specialized end cap removal tool available. A pipe wrench (for example Knipex Cobra) with a piece of cloth is not a specialized tool. I’ve purchased the Hub Genie 627272 version for 15 and 12 mm thru axle hubs.
Even when the DT Swiss XM 1700 Spline wheels for my Scott Scale were delivered, I’ve removed the end caps of the DT Swiss 350 Hubs and re-greased the end cap surface to have some extra protection keeping the water out.
The design of the Unior Tools Hub Genie is simple and monkey proof. It is a threaded spindle with a T-shaped handle and an expanding collar. I’ve put some Weldtite TF2 Grease (or Motorex Bike Grease 2000) on the thread of the Hub Genie to keep it operating smoothly.
On the expanding collar of the Hub Genie, you can put a 11 Gedore Open-ended spanner or a Knipex Pliers Wrench, so you can put more force on the T-shaped-handle and advance the thread to expand the collar. You simply pull out the endcap with a gentle push on the handle.
Concluding thoughts and wrap-up
I’ve purchased the Hub Genie 627272 for the price-point of € 25,00 through Amazon, which is slightly lower than the average price of € 27,50. This is a highly specialized tool, but with a reasonable price point if you don’t want damaged end caps.
