In this article I will share my thoughts about the PowerBar 5 Electrolytes in flavor Black Currant. The tube consists of 10 tablets with a total weight of 42 grams. Compact and easy to carry on a long distance training or adventure ride. Electrolytes are key to keep your body performing during a training ride or any other physical activity.

I will not go into the necessity of electrolyte intake to keep the power curve as high and as long as possible. When I go out for a ride but also with hiking and other sports activities I’ll make sure to take a tube of electrolyte tabs with me. Also on an indoor trainer ride a water bottle with electrolytes is my preferred drink.
Powerbar has served me well for over 30 years with one of my favorite energy bars: PowerBar Energize Original Energy Bar. The flavor is always an important aspect for me, simply because you want something easy on your stomach when you are in full exercise mode. The Black Currant flavor is very nice, not overwhelming or to intense sweet (and something very different from the typical lemon or orange flavors).
There are also two flavors that have added 75 mg of caffeine per PowerBar electrolyte tab. I might test the Pink Grapefruit flavor as well, just to compare with the 6D Hydro ORS Drink – Grapefruit Flavored Electrolytes drink.
Nutritional values PowerBar 5Electrolytes
From an energy perspective the nutritional value is almost zero, however as you look at the electrolyte numbers from a [% Daily Value] perspective, than 2 tab2 of Powerbar 5 Electrolytes will give you 15% of the daily Calcium, Potasium and Magnesium you need (and 50% of the daily Chloride intake needed).

In a quick comparison the Powerbar 5 Electrolytes are almost on par with the nutritional values of the Nuun Sport Hydration Tabs – Electrolytes & vitamins. Both are great (also for indoor trainer rides).
Concluding thoughts and wrap-up
The price point of a tube of he PowerBar 5 Electrolytes in flavor Black Currant is around € 6,00 (for 10 tabs). It is 25% cheaper than the Nuun Sport Hydration Tabs and 6D Hydro ORS Drink Sachets. I really like the Black Currant flavor of these Electrolyte tabs.
PowerBar is a well known and respected brand in sports nutrition for many many years, so you cannot go wrong with these Electrolytes. The tube container is compact and small to easily carry.
