In this article I will share why I like the Clif Bar Chocolate Chip Energy Bar, its nutritional value compared to the other energy bars from brands like PowerBar, Amacx, AC Sports Nutrition, 6D Sports Nutrition and Natusport.

During one of my hiking trips a friend let me taste this Clif Bar Chocolate Chip Energy Bar, which contains oat flakes and chocolate. Many hikers take a bar of chocolate with them, because chocolate contains a lot of energy per gram. So it feels like a mix of high energy ingredients that you would use before and during an endurance activity. Another Oat Energy Bar I’m aware about is the Amacx Energy Oat Bar (in flavor Banana).
Another key feature of the Clif Bar Chocolate Chip Energy Bar is the amount of protein and fibre. Especially the oat flakes contribute to a significant higher level of fibres than for example with the PowerBar Energize Original Energy Bar. Finally I Phosphorus is also labelled as a key ingredient, which helps the metabolism as per product description. In the nutritional value table below you can read the miligrams of Phosphorus and the % of required intake.

Before we go into the specific break down in nutritional values of the Clif Bar Chocolate Chip Energy Bar, let’s have a look at the total amount of energy per 100 grams and compare against the other energy bars that I’ve reviewed so far:
- Win2 Energy Bar has a total energy of 1955 kJ of energy per 100 grams (but discontinued)
- 6D Sports Nougat Bar provides 1789 kJ of energy per 100 grams
- Amacx Energy Nougat Bar fuels you with 1780 kJ of energy per 100 grams
- Natusport Soft Nougat Sport Bar in flavor Lemon & Salt contains 1773 kJ of energy per 100 grams
- PowerBar Ride energy has 1706 kJ of energy per 100 grams.
- Clif Bar Chocolate Chip Energy Bar contains 1596 kJ of energy per 100 grams
- PowerBar Energize Original fuels you with 1560 kJ of energy per 100 grams
So you can see that in terms of energy per 100 grams the Clif Bar Chocolate Chip Energy Bar is in between two PowerBar energy bars that I often use on my bike and during a hike.

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up
The price point of a display box with 12 pieces of Clif Bar Chocolate Chip Energy Bars will be € 29,95 or per Energy Bar is the price point € 2,70. This is a normal price point for an energy bar from a premium brand.
The biggest advantage is that this Energy Bar from Clif Bar can be used with many sports activities. It is pretty easy to chew and digest. But the Clif Bar is significantly wider than the Amacx Energy Oat Bar. So on my bikes I prefer the Amacx, because the portion is smaller (as well as the bar-size) and thus easier to work with on a bike. For hiking I really prefer the Clif Bar simply because it feels like the portion is excellent for this purpose.
