In this article I will share my view on the Assos Chamois Crème that I just use for those intensive long training rides or granfondo efforts, where a lot of torque needs to be put on the pedals without standing on the saddle. It reduces the friction and later I will try to compare with the Born Sportscare No Friction Cream.

Key features Assos Chamois Crème
On the Assos Switzerland product page of the Chamois Creme you can read the following description
ASSOS’ legendary chamois crème is a pre-ride necessity that reduces friction-caused irritation, rehydrates and replenishes the skin, and minimizes the risk of saddle sores.
Chafing and saddle sores are common problems for professional and amateur cyclists alike, so we specifically engineered a lubricating cream that relieves both issues. Moisturizing with a slight cooling sensation, ASSOS Chamois Crème is the perfect viscosity to reduce friction, endure your longest rides, and thoroughly wash out without damaging or staining your chamois. We’ve perfected the formula over decades to become the industry benchmark for this staple of the cyclist’s toolkit.
I use the Assos Chamois Crème for those intensive long training rides, for example in the Belgian Ardennes or granfondo efforts, where a lot of torque needs to be put on the pedals without standing on the saddle. Also with gravel efforts where you grind a bit more.
The Assos Chamois Crème will reduce the friction and protects the skin in the inguinal area as well as the bottom area of your pelvis. Basically the area of your body that touches the saddle.
The viscosity is very similar to for example Nivea creme, so easy to apply and not to fluid. However there is a menthol ingredient in the Assos Chamois Crème that also gives you a cool feeling during warm and intense rides. Application is easy and it will not leave stains on your bib (short).
At a later point in time I will try to compare the Assos Chamois Crème with the Born Sportscare No Friction Cream.
Concluding thoughts and wrap-up
The price point of the Assos Chamois Crème for a container of 200 ml is € 25,00. Since I’m not using the creme all the time, I’m still working through my first container. It is for me a fair price point for a product that does what it needs to do: “reducing friction“.
- Do you use any no-friction cream before you go on a ride ?
- What brand and typo of cream do you use ? Please let me know in the comments.
Another cool but unfortunately discontinued product is the Assos Water Bottle with Cyclist design. The lightest water bottle that I’ve personally tested.
