In this article I will share my thoughts about the Decathlon Silicone MTB Grips, that I used on my Scott Scale 925 mountainbike in the period when I was doing upgrades Deore XT Di2 M8250 rear derailleur and Shimano Deore XT M8200 series disc brakes.

When you look at the basics the Decathlon Silicone MTB Grips are very similar to the ESI Chunky Silicone Grips with a length of 130 mm, diameter of 31 mm. and compatibility with standard 22.2 mm MTB bars. The end cap bar plugs of the Decathlon MTB Grips are just plain black, compared to the more golden plugs from ESI. I personally use the Hope Tech Grip Doctor – Bar End protection.
If I put the Decathlon MTB Grips on the good old kitchen scales it shows a weight of 75 grams per pair and 5 grams for the bar plugs, bringing the total weight to 80 grams. The main features that made me fall in love with the ESI Chunky MTB Grips is the comfort, simply because the silicone material absorbs some shocks in rough terrain (that the Fox Racing 32 Step-Cast Suspension fork cannot get rid off).
The Specialized Body Geometry Sport Gel Gloves or the Roeckl Sports Mori MTB Gloves have excellent grip on the silicone grips. No matter rainy and wet conditions the grip is superb on the Decathlon Silicone Grips.
Installation Decathlon Silicone MTB Grips
Installation of the Decathlon Silicone Grips is super easy and exactly the same 3 step process as the ESI Chunky Silicone Grips. Check out the review for the installation video if you need, but the 3 steps are listed below”
- Install bar plugs prior to the grips.
- Use a generous amount of evaporative liquid like isopropyl alcohol or hand sanitizer.
- Stand on opposite side of bike and pull grips onto bar with towel quickly.
I tend to use disc brake cleaner which evaporates quickly as well (without harming my aluminum bars). Removing the Decathlon Silicone MTB Grips is a combination of evaporative liquid and the air-gun attached to my compressor.
Concluding thoughts and wrap-up
The price point of the Decathlon Silicone MTB Grips is € 13,00 for a pair, which is an excellent value for money ratio and beating the price point of the ESI Chunky Silicone MTB Grips. The ESI Chunky Grips are more expensive with a price point of around € 20,00.
If I need to summarize the main benefits of the Decathlon Silicone MTB Grips it is the combination of excellent price point, low weight and excellent grip in any weather condition. A solid alternative for the ESI Chunky Silicone MTB Grips at a lower price point.
