In this article I will review the BBB Cycling UltraStop BBS-28HP Rim Brake Pads and try to compare these practically against the normal Shimano Dura Ace and SwissStop Brake Pads. Tested on the good old Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 8.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Key features BBB Cycling UltraStop BBS-28HP Brake pads
On the BBB Cycling product page for the UltraStop BBS-28HP (rim) Brake Pads you can read the following key features highlighted:
- Compatibel with BBB TechStop, Shimano, Shimano direct mount, SRAM and Campagnolo cartridges
- 4-in-1 back design;
- The triple phase profile design gives up to 20% more braking power in dry and wet conditions;
- Resistant to high temperatures;
Of course it is very hard for me to scientifically proof how the BBB UltraStop BBS-28HP Rim Brake Pads compare against the Shimano Dura Ace- and SwissStop Brake Pads for rim brakes. But in the past I’ve experienced a lot of differences in brake pads for dry conditions versus pads for wet conditions.
In a couple of weeks I will participate in Alpe d’HuZes 2025, which is a unique sporting event where as much money as possible is raised for cancer research and for improving the quality of life of people with cancer. The event is on the Alpe d’Huez in France, so going up and down the mountain, where high temperatures of the rims can be expected. So I’ll probably install the UltraStop BBS-28HP Rim Brake Pads, simply to experience the performance myself.
Next to braking performance, the price-point is from my point of view also a feature.

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up
The price point of a set BBB Cycling UltraStop BBS-28HP Rim Brake Pads (4 pads including 4 cartridge bolts) is € 16,00. For me this is a very fair price point, but also know that rim brakes are not the standard anymore. So I’ve ordered a couple of spare sets.
