Muc-Off Mechanics Gloves

In this article I will share some thoughts why the Muc-off Mechanics Gloves make sense to purchase. I will try to present a couple of other alternatives available. During maintenance there are activities where some additional protection of your skin is required (because of the degreaser or the risk of mechanical impact).

Key features Muc-Off Mechanics Gloves

On the product page of the Muc-Off Mechanics Gloves you can read the following description that highlights a couple of the key features:

Perfect for anyone working on a bicycle, motorcycle or car, the Muc-Off Mechanics Gloves are designed to offer the hand total 360° comfort and protection against most cuts and scratches with minimal impact to dexterity. Gone are the days of taking the skin off your knuckles when removing a difficult to remove bolt or pedal!

  • Total 360° protection from most cuts and scratches.
  • Latex free.
  • Polyurethane palm coating provides excellent grip whilst preserving dexterity.
  • Ultra-lightweight and available in five different sizes.
  • Machine washable: Wash at low temp (30°C).

We’ve all experienced a glitch of a hex key, torque wrench or pliers and ended up with a cut in a chainring or any other metal part of your bike. So in a lot of scenarios I like to wear gloves, also to protect my hands from cleaners, lubes and other chemicals (despite the fact that these are becoming more and more biodegradable)

However a lot of gloves are pretty thick, so you have less sensitivity in your finger tips (simply because of the glove thickness or rubber layer on top of the glove). Latex gloves are thin, but damage easily because there is no fabric woven into to glove providing any form of mechanical strength.

For me the Muc-Off Mechanics Gloves strike the perfect balance between thin, sensitive but strong and resistent to wear-out (and thus protective). I am using these Muc-Off gloves for a couple of months now, and I have put these on the work bench in the garage (and in my BERA CLIC+ toolboxes with cycling specific tools in Cocoon Grid-It Organizers).

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up

The price-point of Muc-Off Mechanics Gloves is in the range € 9,00 – € 12,00. It is not cheap for a pair of gloves, but it keeps your hands and finger tips safe during maintenance (and safe from chemicals like drive train cleaners for example).

  • Do you use gloves while performing maintenance tasks on your bike(s)?
  • If you are using gloves, which brand and type?
  • With Muc-Off being a respected brand, would you invest € 10,00 in a pair of gloves?
